Clients rely on Mr. Chen’s technical acumen and legal expertise to help them protect their valuable intellectual properties.  With his deep technical background, Mr. Chen can quickly discern novel aspects of various technology areas – ranging from simple mechanical devices to complex areas such as artificial intelligence/machine learning, distributed computing, wireless technologies, multimedia, processor architecture, virtual computing, and storage systems – and determine patent strategies best suited to his clients’ needs.

Before becoming a patent lawyer, Mr. Chen worked as a patent agent at a prominent intellectual property firm, and as an engineer for Qualcomm and Cisco Systems. Mr. Chen’s industry experience coupled with his extensive patent prosecution experience enable him to skillfully assess complex technologies and capture novel technical nuances throughout the patent procurement process.

Mr. Chen received his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, Riverside and his M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego.  Mr. Chen received his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law where he graduated cum laude.
