Mr. Downing’s practice includes patent preparation and prosecution, as well as patent portfolio management and intellectual property counseling.

Practice Areas & Background

Mr. Downing has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications in a wide range of technology areas, including: computer hardware and software, networking, virtual computing, memory management, encryption, and mobile device applications.

In the past, Mr. Downing was a patent attorney at another intellectual property law firm in Texas where he was responsible for drafting patent applications, office action responses, and appeal briefs as well as providing strategic advice and counsel to in house counsel of various corporations.  Before that, Mr. Downing had judicial internships with the Honorable Dori Garza at the Thirteenth Court of Appeals of Texas and the Honorable Felix Recio at the Southern Federal District Court of Texas.

Mr. Downing received his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center and his B.A. in Computer Science from Austin College where he graduated cum laude.
