Mr. Sustaita’s practice includes patent preparation and prosecution, as well as patent portfolio management and intellectual property counseling.
Practice Areas & Background
Mr. Sustaita has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications in a wide range of technology areas, including: cloud computing, data analytics, computer architecture, storage devices, network applications, inventory management systems, computer system security, databases, video codecs, computer authentication systems, and user interfaces.
Prior to joining KLS, Mr. Sustaita was an attorney in several prominent law firms in Texas where he was responsible for drafting patent applications, office action responses, and appeal briefs as well as providing strategic advice and counsel to in house counsel of various corporations.
Before attending law school, Mr. Sustaita spent a decade as an engineer and scientist at several large electronic device manufacturers. As an engineer, he led the design and implementation of code for a new cell phone architecture; developed device drivers to enable communication with an external digital signal communication device; and developed user interfaces.
Mr. Sustaita received his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara and his M.S. in Computer Science from Texas A&M University. Mr. Sustaita also completed two years of a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin before earning his J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
